Named Scholarships Policy

Purpose of Named Scholarships

  1. Named scholarships are different from AUBG institutional aid in that the scholarship is intended to honor specific qualifications and characteristics designated by the donor.
  2. Named scholarships may be awarded in addition to the financial support offered by AUBG.

Notice of Availability

  1. A listing of all “named scholarships” is published and available to all students, including prospective students on both the AUBG website and, in separate written and/or electronic materials..
  2. The criteria for each scholarship is listed with the notice of availability.
  3. The deadline for applications for named scholarships is listed and  allows students enough time to apply.

Student Eligibility

  1. Unless otherwise specified, students must be full-time and continuing.
  2. Only students applying for or currently receiving financial aid are eligible.
  3. Students who have full institutional financial support are ineligible.
  4. Students must be in good standing, academically and socially.

Application and Selection Process

  1. Students may apply for up to three named scholarships in any year but a student is eligible to receive only ONE scholarship, at any one time.
  2. Except for those scholarships designated for entering first year students that are to be held for all four years if GPA is maintained, all applications should be due in the spring for the following year.
  3. Whether a scholarship can be reapplied for should be indicated in the notice of availability, but unless it is a multi-year commitment, there should be no expectation of continuation every year without reapplication.
  4. All scholarships are administered by the AUBG Scholarship Committee or its designees (e.g. Admissions Committee for entering students, Student Services for Study Abroad students).

Administration of Named Scholarships

  1. Awards are not final until the selected student signs the award letter agreeing to all of the terms and conditions, including writing a letter of appreciation to the donor upon receipt
  2. All scholarships will be applied to the students’ accounts in the following priority: a) toward the student’s tuition obligation for the academic year; b) toward the student’s obligation for room and student activity fee; c) toward students’ expenses for board and required textbooks of up to $650 per semester; d) any excess funds will go toward the institutional aid granted to the student for the particular year. Remainder funds may not be used to cover past outstanding debt nor held for use in future years.
  3. The Scholarship Committee has the right to revoke scholarships if the required GPA is not maintained.
