About his education at AUBG Jacob says: "In addition to its unique location and diverse student body, AUBG provides a very solid
academic experience. In particular, I think that any Americans interested in diplomacy, international |

politics and NGOs or with international journalism would be particularly rewarded by studying at AUBG, given the University's strength in these programs and the unique relevance and practicality of these fields in the region of South Eastern Europe."
"My experience at AUBG and in the Balkans more generally has given me access t o a practical perspective on international politics, multicultural relationships, and problems of countries in transition, which is fairly rare in the academic world. What my classmates at the University of Chicago often view as abstractions are for me concrete realities, connected in my mind with the personal stories of friends and with familiar places. I feel that my perspective on the world is much more nuanced and rounded than it would be otherwise, which is a great advantage to someone embarking on an academic "In a time of greater interconnectedness and globalization, AUBG seems like a great place to practice the art of living alongside people of vastly different experience." |
Nathan Gilbert Nathan studies Eastern European Culture in the US and came to AUBG to get a more first hand experience. "What I like most about AUBG is that it is truly a diverse school. There are students from all over. At UI in the states, the international students just hang out with other international students. Here everyone hangs out with each other. You have so many opportunities to learn about other people's cultures. What I like about Blgaoevgrad, is that it's near the mountains giving it a very picturesque view. Also it's close to Sofia, which helps when traveling. What I like about Bulgaria is that it's very different than the states." "If you're up for something new, and want a diverse experience AUBG is the place." |

Nicholas Waldhous "I wanted to study somewhere outside the US. Many Americans travel, but few ever really live in another country and achieve that deeper level of understanding about another country. I wanted a real world experience in addition to my college education." "I was interested in visiting a country outside Western Europe, where most American students abroad choose to enroll. Also, there is a high demand back home for university graduates proficient in languages other than the romance languages and German. In the US, most students don't get the option to study any languages other than French, German or Spanish. |
"Blagoevgrad is an ideal university town. There are lots of discos, Internet clubs, cafes, and bars within walking distance. There is a carting track outside town and a swimming pool near a bike path." "I am amazed by the social milieu here. I've met so many people of such diverse backgrounds that I sometimes have trouble reining in my enthusiasm when I talk about AUBG with my friends in the States." "I've already recommended AUBG to all my friends in the US. In fact I've already mailed one of them an application." |
